| I
have always been an outdoors person. I love hunting, fishing, riding
horses and just being outside. So owning Catahoulas, hog hunting and
bay-pen competition are a natural for me. How I came to own my first
Catahoula is a bit unusual. I took one of my show Cocker Spaniels to
be groomed at Blair Dog Center owned by Janette Blair. I went there
not knowing what a Catahoula was, and I left with a NALC registered
red leopard female pup. Two weeks later, I bought a NALC registered
male from Janette. I found out Catahoulas are a lot like Lay's Potato
Chips -- you can't have just one.
A few months later I met Amos and Susan Mann. I had taken my pups to the bay pen a few times and they did okay. I'm real competitive and "okay" doesn't cut it with me. So I was on the lookout for a nice pup with working parents. At an ACA meeting, Susan told me that one of her females bred to Cutter was having pups that day. I went to check them out. That day one of the best dogs I've ever owned was born. I put a $50 deposit on her, and the day I went to pick her up, Amos said, "She's yours". I said, "Thanks. Here's some money." He said, "No, she's yours. Don't worry about it." Two Diamond's Tigger was a top-notch bay dog. She was strictly business in the bay pen. She was special to me for a lot of reasons. She was my first bay pen dog and she was the first pup I got from Amos and Susan. Tejas Catahoulas began by the friendship and generosity of Amos and Susan Mann. August 26, 2000, we had an addition to Tejas Catahoulas. I married my best friend, Delvin Templeton. He is a wonderful husband. He even feeds in the cold and rain! Dee now has his favorite dogs that "He HAS to run". I believe he has been bitten by the same Catahoula bug that bit me years ago. I've made lots of good friends through owning Catahoulas and going to NALC shows and open bay pen competitions. Amos and Susan are among my most-valued friends. I've bought a "few" (ha!) more Catahoulas from them in the years that we've been friends. Another valued friendship that occurred because of Catahoulas is with great friend and tough competitor, Francesca Buck of Buck Catahoulas! All three of these people have helped Dee and I make Tejas Catahoulas tough competition in the bay pen. See
you at the next baying!
